PIE, PIE, ME - OH - MY
Yes, it is that time of year again. Making pies until past midnight, only to return to the kitchen again early in the morning to begin the dinner preparations. Who am I kidding? I will sleep in while my hubby tackles the hard stuff! I LOVE Thanksgiving and gathering with friends. Usually we stay at Arcosanti for this holiday. Unfortunately, I was roped into holding the dinner at home this year. I am already missing our usual tradition at Arco. I know that they will be having tons of laughs and good times. There is always next year. I will not make this mistake again! However, I enjoyed making pies. Two pumpkin, one apple and two chocolate. That ought to do it.
One year we had a “Pie Party” Thanksgiving night. We bought about every kind of pie that you can imagine from a local bakery and had an open house type of event where friends and family could drop by when it was convenient for them. It was FABULOUS. I believe that we had about 30-50 people come by throughout the evening, all hungry for their favorite piece of pie. It was definitely a night to be remembered and I am still hearing about how much fun it was many years later. In fact, a friend in California called me today because she had to tell me that she thinking about that celebration and was having great memories. That makes my heart smile.
As I made the pies tonight, I put much love and beautiful energy into them, so it will be great to experience the magic spell that I baked into them when they are eaten. I often think of the story (and movie), “Like Water To Chocolate” when I cook or bake (which isn’t too often these days, unfortunately). Your emotions and feelings transfer into the food that you are making. If you haven’t read the book or seen the movie, it is worth checking it out. It has made a lasting impression on me.
Wishing you all a BEAUTIFUL, JOYFUL Thanksgiving holiday filled with everything magical and good.
